Hi. So just to clarify there are many different coronavirus around – most of which usually just give us a bit of a cold. But the coronavirus which is in the news etc is a new one called SARS-CoV-2. Part of the reason it has caused a pandemic is because it is a brand new virus in humans and so nobody has any immunity to it already. For that reason potentially anybody can become infected with the virus. The virus causes an illness called COVID-19. Some people just have very mild symptoms or even no symptoms at all. Other people have become very sick when they get COVID-19 – mostly people who are elderly or have long term health conditions. So in answer to your question SARS-CoV-2 can potentially affect (infect) anybody from babies up to adults but not everyone will become sick from it.You kind find more information here: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/

This coronavirus we are seeing right now can in theory affect everyone. It will affect some people much more severely than others, that is why we really need to protect the elderly and those with medical conditions by staying at home and keeping our distance from each other.

Check out the link Sarah provided for more info though

Everyone can catch it, but young, healthy people (including children) seem to only develop a mild form of it. Some people can even have no symptoms at all! It seems to give more severe symptoms in elderly people or people who have other preexisting medical conditions.
