My favourite thing to do in my spare time is to go for walks along the beach. I loooove being by the sea, especially when it’s sunny (and even more if I see lots of dogs whilst I’m there!) 🌞

So I have been a student for most of my adult life (people are right when they say you never stop learning) – but the most important thing I have learned is the need to sometimes switch off and relax.

I usually go to the gym, play football with friends or just do chilled out things like going out to the cinema or for dinner. That way, when I go back to work – I’m more focused and relaxed. It’s a really good question and I think taking time to look after yourself is something we all need to do a bit more 👍

I do Latin dancing, like salsa and bachata, and I joined the pistol club. We have training sessions once or twice a week and, after the training, we have dinner and hang out together. I also like going for long walks and having ice cream.

I love to draw, and I also love to sing! I think singing is one of my favourite hobbies. I try and travel as much as I can – I love hiking and in general just climbing things (I think this is related to when I was younger I loved climbing trees). I also like cooking a lot!

I like walking around and exploring Edinburgh – I’ve only lived here for 5 months since I started my PhD and I’m always discovering new places – yesterday I found a new amazing ice cream shop!

It’s definitely important to spend time not doing science as being a scientist can sometimes be very stressful, but overall I still love doing science.

My favourite thing to do in my spare time is synchronised swimming! If you haven’t heard of this before it’s a bit like ballet dancing but in a swimming pool. I love making new routines and performing in special costumes 😀. For most of the performance my head is underwater and my legs are out! This means I am very good at holding my breath and I look super silly with a sort of peg on my nose so that no water gets in!

In my spare time I am usually seeing my friends, reading a book or trying out new recipes – in fact making dinner for friends using some new recipe book is exactly what I did this weekend!

Me and my partner play Dungeons and Dragons with friends! I’m the Dungeon Master, so I’m running the campaign, my partner plays a bard. We also have an allotment, we’re still turning the soil over (the weather’s been awful!) but I’m excited to plant it out.

Science is like both a job and a hobby, so often a scientist will do, ahem, science, during a spare time. However, during increasingly rare spare spare times, I like to play or tinker about board games or do drawing/sketching.

I love to go to the theatre (musicals and plays) and cinema, visit museums and exhibitions, meeting friends, and travel to other (non-European) countries to learn about their cultures. So far, I have been to the USA, South-Africa, Dubai, Nepal, Malaysia and Singapore. And on a sunny day, I love to just go for a walk through London and discover new local places.

I also like listening to music.

I am based in The Gambia doing research so there is so much amazing things to see and do at the weekends. We saw chimpanzees in the wild a few weeks ago!

I love cooking or finding new recipes from cuisines across the world to try out. I also love playing and watching sport. I play a lot of cricket and hockey. I also love writing my science blog and sharing science on my own Instagram. If I have the chance too I will try and travel to explore a new place. So I am always busy as you can probably guess
