I very much like my job! It is great to discover something new, and in the long run, I hope that my discoveries will help patients that suffer from lymphoma (cancer of immune cells in the lymph node). This motivates me to continue my research, even when it sometimes is a lot of work and not everything I do works the first (or second, or third) time.

There are so many things I love about my job. One being that I get to learn about loads of different types of science and not just research one. And I get to also be creative and make videos and podcasts about these topics and more

I love working with my mice. My mice have mutations in their genes that cause changes in their brain, that we think might be linked to schizophrenia. I get to work with them nearly every day, challenging them with different tests, to see how they might behave differently to normal mice. It’s often really interesting, because my mutated mice have a lot of differences! They react to sounds differently, they find it more difficult to solve mazes, and they socialise with other mice differently.

My absolute favorite thing about my job is interpreting the results of the analyses we run. My job is mostly asking and answering questions about our health throughout our lives (so, for example, looking into how what we ate as babies can impact our health as older people). I love putting what I’ve just found together with what people have previously found to add to what we all know about human health and development.

I love working with so many clever and talented people from lots of different backgrounds 👥👩🙋😎

I learn so much everyday (it’s really true that you never stop learning) and also from my work as a research doctor, hopefully I am able to help teach some of my friends and colleagues too!

I think the variety from day to day is one of the best things and so is getting to work with so many interesting people!

Having flexibility in what I work on each day, being able to use my brain to solve problems that will hopefully help people to live healthier lives!

I think the best thing is being able to choose what I do with my day – whether that’s working with patients, doing data analysis, or reading a lot – the flexibility of being a scientist is something I’ve never had in any other job. A close second though is being to listen to patient stories – you learn so much just by listening!

I love that I get to learn and try out lots of new things – and it’s the best feeling when you finally figure out something really tricky!

The best thing about my job is seeing children in the hospital, thinking about the questions that might be important to them in terms of their health, and then trying to answer those questions in my research. Its great to see how my research might be able to make things better for them!

I get to work on something that I am really interested in and that I think is worth investigating. The work hours are flexible and I can do my job in my own rhythm. I also work with really cool people that make me very happy!

I think the main thing I enjoy is getting to meet and talk to so many new people about science. There is a lot of opportunity to travel the world to meet people with similar interests. I also love visiting schools and exploring scientific ideas with the students 🙂
