I’ve always been interested in the brain and mind – so having a career in this only made sense. When I was 13 I had a concussion, so after that I was curious about how the brain recovers after injury. After I started volunteering in hospitals, I thought it was amazing how people with very severe injuries could recover so much, and ultimately to me the best part of it was that neurorehabilitation (special recovery for people with brain injury) helped people get back to what they want to do, rather than sit at home all day and do nothing. I think it was at this stage I knew I really wanted to do research into improving rehabilitation.

I always knew that I wanted to work in science in some way. First I wanted to be a doctor, then I wanted to be a research scientist, but then I discovered a career in science communication and that is what I wanted to do from then on.

I wanted to work in science communication because I love the learning and discover that science gives you but I also love being creative by writing or making videos, planning events etc and my job now lets me combine both
