I’m a PhD student – it’s my full-time job because I get paid to study which is cool! I worked in an office before this and I got bored pretty easily – I love what I do now because every day is different and I get to do lots of experiments so I don’t sit at my desk much. I love learning new things every day.

I like working in a university environment and getting to interact with so many different people. Working with macaques is also pretty fun and interesting!

My absolute favorite thing about my job is interpreting the results of the analyses we run. My job is mostly asking and answering questions about our health throughout our lives (so, for example, looking into how what we ate as babies can impact our health as older people). I love putting what I’ve just found together with what people have previously found to add to what we all know about human health and development.

I like most working with my mice. They’re very cute, and I enjoy working with them every day, seeing how they are, and watching how they behave.

I like working with the people with the brain injury the most – I read lots and lots about brain injury, but because everyone experience their injury differently I am always surprised and encounter new challenges by working with each individual person. So people skills are just as important as understanding the science behind it all!

I am a PhD student, and the thing I like most about this is that I learn something new everyday. I really enjoy the flexibility, and the fact that I get the chance to do a lot of different things, and hopefully travel to some cool places to present my work!

One of the great things about science and medical research is that you have to work in teams – so you end up meeting and working with super clever people and learning loads from each other every day.

I am doubly lucky because I work with a super cool team at the University in London and an equally cool team at the hospital in Cambridge 😎

      Hi,

The thing I like most is discovering new things which could be used to help patients with genetic diseases. I work in a lab so don’t spend a lot of time sitting down which is good, I like walking around because it keeps me fit.

It is intellectually stimulating and you get to answer questions that you are interested in. I also like knowing what impact my work would have and feeling that my research is worth doing. My colleagues are great fun to work with and it’s cool to be surrounded by other nerds who get excited about science.

What I like about my job is that I get to investigate why people should or should not have certain food supplement. For example should we give iron supplement to people who are already sick? No, because giving iron to sick people can make them more sick.

As a PhD student I think it’s great that I am always learning and solving problems (some are fun to do and others aren’t!). This job is very flexible and I generally chose to work at home which is nice. Being a PhD student is also very good for travelling to different countries and meeting new people! I am going to learn about other mathematical medicine research in LA this year and meet people with the same interests (and then afterwards we are going to Disneyland🤪).

I am a PhD student. The best thing about my job is being in charge of my own project and finding out new things.

I very much like my job! It is great to discover something new, and in the long run, I hope that my discoveries will help patients that suffer from lymphoma (cancer of immune cells in the lymph node). This motivates me to continue my research, even when it sometimes is a lot of work and not everything I do works the first (or second, or third) time.

I like that I get to learn about lots of different areas of science, not just one. I also love that I get to be creative in sharing that science and make videos, podcasts, art, work at events teaching people about the latest discoveries and more
