Animals can be involved in all kinds of experiments. Some are given a drug, some have blood samples taken, some are kept for behavioural studies (such as sleep or circadium rhythem experiments). Others may be kept for a long time and aged to study the effects of ageing. Some are only kept a short time as they are killed to take organ or tissue samples that can then be studied. Some are only kept for breeding to maintain the colonies. There are many many different ways we use animals in research but all of it is regulated legally with laws and we follow strict rules with what we are allowed to do.
