I work on an experimental treatment for type 1 diabetes. Hopefully in the future, this treatment could be available to more people with diabetes. At the moment, because it’s experimental and there are risks, it’s only available to a very small group of people with a serious condition called brittle diabetes. We transplant cells that make insulin from the pancreas of an organ donor into some of these patients. In Edinburgh last year, around 20 people got this transplant.
