Great question! To be honest, there are a lot of contributing factors that could lead to dementia. Sometimes it’s genetic and can be passed down. Other times it’s lifestyle factors. Maintaining a healthy diet, not smoking, exercising, drinking moderately are all associated with being less likely to develop dementia. Other factors such as knowing more than one language or playing an instrument have been associated with lower dementia risk too.
However, there are cases where it’s just bad luck.
