• Question: If medicine reacts the wrong way, can they get more sick and how would you then treat them as they will be sick?

      Yes, it is rare but sometimes medicines can make people more sick! How we treat them depends on how sick they become. For example, some people might just get a small rash or a headache, and we could treat these easily with other medicines such as painkillers. If a medicine makes someone really sick they may have to go to hospital so they can be monitored and treated there. Usually, Doctors will run some tests to find out why a person has reacted badly to a medicine. If they know this, then they can hopefully treat the patient with medicines that will help!

      As Robyn has said this is very rare but it can happen. Usually doctors can predict if someone will react badly to medication based on there history but this isn’t always possible. If someone does have a reaction to a medication then how they are treated will vary a lot based on how bad the reaction is and what kind of medicine it is. Luckily most adverse reactions to medicines are mild and easily dealt with just by changing the medication!
