Really good question 👍 Almost certainly smoking regularly will massively increase chances of getting heart problems, lung problems and cancer – so very likely reduce their length of life.

One really cool scientific question has looked at how much this could be minimised by stopping smoking and at what age – basically the younger you stop – the more benefit you get.

Stopping at 60 years old – Gain 3 years

Stopping at 50 years old – Gain 6 years

Stopping at 40 years old -Gain 9 years

Stopping at 30 years old – Gain 10 years

I think Nuru has given a great answer here! All I can add is that smoking can reduce life expectancy by around 10 years, and that quitting smoking before you turn 40 can reduce the risk of dying from smoking-related disease by around 90%!
