I think I was about 16 when I decided I wanted to do medicine and starting picking my A-levels 👍

I’m still deciding! I chose to study biology at university when I filled in my UCAS. I chose something else for my master’s degree and something else for my PhD – I’m still not sure what I want to do after my PhD but I don’t think I wan’t to work in a university for much longer.

I was 18 when I decided I wanted to be a medical doctor and about 22 when I decided I would actually prefer to do research instead. Just because you make a decision when you’re about 18 doesn’t mean it will be what you do for your whole life.

I was 21 when I decided I wanted to pursue a research based career. Before this I thought I would be a teacher!

I knew I wanted to work in science since forever really. But the specific job I have now I didnt realise existed until about three years ago, so I would say it has been about three years since I decided on the job I wanted to do.
It has changed for me with each step that I have done in my career and I have evolved it as I have learnt more and learnt what I enjoy more and so on

I think I only really ironed it out when i was 21/22 – but when I was younger I definitely wanted to be a clinical neuropsychologist, so I’m kind of close to that in my science field!

Mmm thats tricky. I wanted to be a doctor from about 16-17 years old. But this is a very wide area. I only narrowed my interest into childrens hormones in the last 5 years and I still am not entirely sure what I want to do after my PhD!

I think I decided to do this sort of job when I was 23 (I’m an infectious disease epidemiologist)

I’m still not sure I have worked out what I want my job to be….I’ve done lots of different things already. I have done non-science jobs and various different science jobs. For the last 10-15yrs I’ve been working in science and also working as a doctor… my jobs have been different but all on a similar theme. I guess what I’m saying is that I settled on “science” at 16years ish but that is still a varied path.
