• Question: How do you know how to treat children and give them the right medication?

      Hi thanks for your question. So at medical school we all learn about all areas of medicine – from orthopaedics (bones) to cardiology (hearts) to paediatrics (children). Obviously we can’t possibly learn everything about everything but we learn the basics. After medical school, paediatric training is 8 years long before you become a consultant paediatrician and in this time you learn about diagnosing and treating children. Essentially these 8 years are spent working in paediatrics and getting support, teaching and guidance from more senior doctors.
